Nimar Underwater Camera Housing for Canon 550D

Designed to house the Canon EOS 550D, also known as Rebel T2i, the Nimar Underwater Camera Housing is fitted with buttons, knobs, and levers corresponding to the controls of the camera for a full access to its functions. It is also configured to provide an unimpeded view of the camera viewfinder and LCD screen for ease of photo composition.

The EOS 550D is an 18-megapixel camera that captures both stills and videos. With a little help from the Nimar housing, it can take photos of colorful seaweeds in their own habitat and videos of swimming manta rays flapping their wings.

The underwater housing is made of marine grade clear polycarbonate that provides you with an unhampered view of the camera inside. You can even see the O-ring seal sandwiched between the housing’s main body and its lid. The polycarbonate casing assures excellent strength and solidity. Indeed, it can handle water pressure even at 200 feet, or 60 meters, deep. Its near-neutral buoyancy makes it easy to handle while underwater.

With four stainless steel hooks locking the lid to the main body, the odds of an accidental opening underwater is virtually eliminated. In the event that the lid is not properly secured and water seepage occurs, a blinking light and audio alarm is activated to warn you.

Camera installation is a breeze. At its front end is a bayonet-mount lens port system allowing you to change ports to accommodate different types of lenses. Since it uses a reliable seal and tight mounting, you can be sure the system is watertight. With this kind of design, you do not need to remove the camera from the housing to change from fish eye to zoom lenses.

The Nimar Underwater Camera Housing includes left and right handles for ease of maneuvering. They are sufficiently close to the main body to allow you to access all camera controls without letting go.

Equipped with standard Nikonos bulkhead, you can connect strobes to your Canon 550D for shooting in the dark depths of the oceans.

Dimensions of the Nimar for Canon 550D are approximately 9″ W x 7″ H x 9″ D. Without the handles, it weighs almost 7 pounds.

Subal ND90 Waterproof Housing for Nikon D90

The Nikon D90 is an excellent camera that features a 12.3-megapixel CMOS sensor. This, along with Nikon’s EXPEED technology, guarantees clear and distinct photos. It is also the first DSLR that incorporates an HD movie mode recording at 720p, complete with sound. When mated with the Subal ND90 Waterproof Housing, the world of the D90 breaks its natural limits to include the vast expanse underneath the waves.

The Nikon D90 fits inside the Subal ND90 like a hand fits a glove. It rests on a saddle which locks the camera firmly into place, allowing the buttons and dials of the camera to perfectly align and be in contact with those of the casing. This is important because it is through the casing’s buttons and dials that the camera is controlled.

All controls on the Subal ND90 are ergonomically mounted to ensure a comfortable and convenient operation, even when wearing gloves during a dive. There are threaded holes on the top shoe for the mounting and aiming of strobe lights, as well as on the bottom of the case for trays. In order to ensure that the 3-inch LCD monitor at the back of the camera remains visible at all times, it is provided with generous shading. A viewfinder optic is also included for full frame viewing.

The body of the ND90 is machined from a block of an aluminum alloy that is resistant to the corroding effects of seawater. As a further insurance, it is hard coated and anodized. The non-aluminum components of the casing are either made of stainless steel or high-quality plastics.

Two Subal QuickLock catches seal the casing. These are designed in a way that the door cannot be locked unless the O-ring seal is properly positioned within its groove. They also include a mechanism that prevents the door from accidental opening.

When sealed, the Subal ND90 Waterproof Housing can take your Nikon D90 down to 70 meters below the water surface to capture still photos and videos of manta rays, blue whales, or perhaps even sharks.

Sea & Sea MDX-PRO D700 Underwater Housing for Nikon D700

The Nikon D700 is one of the company’s top DSLRs. It boasts of a 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor assuring you of clearly defined and rich photos. An outstanding feature is the high ISO sensitivity ranging from 200 to 6,000 making it capable of capturing excellent images even in extremely low-light conditions. Constructed with a rugged magnesium alloy and provided with dust and moisture protection, the camera can absorb a certain amount of punishment without damaging its internal components.

Owing to its tough housing, the Nikon D700 can be taken beyond the usual milieu for expensive DSLRs. It can be taken for a swim and a dive down to 200 feet beneath the waves provided it is encased in a suitable underwater housing, such as the Sea & Sea MDX-PRO D700.

This Sea & Sea model is dedicated to the Nikon D700 and is constructed out of an aluminum body that is CNC machined from a solid block precisely cutting and polishing its most minute detail. As it is made of aluminum, it is both light and durable. An anodized coating is applied to protect it from rust, corrosion, and abrasion.

Sliding the camera inside the housing is facilitated by a quick shoe. A port lock device keeps the port closed, while locking latches secure the opening of the housing preventing it from accidental opening. As a further precautionary measure, the housing is equipped with a leakage sensor that alerts you to the slightest seepage of water.

Although the camera is capable of shooting in low light conditions, the housing comes with two type-N strobe connectors. The external flash can be triggered by the camera’s built-in flash. Olympus PT-E02 Underwater Housing for Evolt E-330

The 7.5 megapixel Olympus Evolt E-330 differs dramatically from most other DSLR cameras. It is the first to offer live preview. Conventional DSLR design makes live preview impossible because the mirror deflecting incoming light to the viewfinder blocks its path to the sensor. Olympus tweaked this design and came up with a solution. With this, it is able to offer an LCD screen, installed in the Evolt E-330, that can be flipped out to capture shots from awkward angles, expanding your options.

Said options are further expanded by the Olympus PT-E02 Underwater Housing that is specifically designed for the Evolt E-330. Made of clear and transparent polycarbonate, it is tough enough to withstand water pressures up to a depth of close to 200 feet. With the help of a silicone O-ring main seal, safety locks, and stainless steel as well as nickel-plated brass hardware, water is effectively excluded from the casing.

The LCD display of the Evolt E-330 is clearly visible through the polycarbonate allowing you to properly compose your underwater photos of sharks, manta rays, blue whales, or marine plants. Camera settings are also visible and they can be adjusted through buttons and knobs conveniently mounted on the housing.

In front of the camera lens is a clear fluorite (FL) glass. This protects the lens while at the same time allowing the entry of light rays into the lens without distorting them. A flash diffuser is integrated with the housing allowing you to use the camera’s built-in flash in low-light conditions.

The PT-E02 housing is compatible with the optical glass flat ports PPO-E01 designed for the 14-45 mm zoom, and the 35 mm macro lenses; PPO-E02 for the 14 – 54 mm and 11 – 22 mm zoom lenses; and the PPO-E03 for the 50 mm macro lens. It can also be coupled with the PFL-E01 Flash Housing that can accommodate Olympus’ FL-36 Flash.
