Ultra compact digital cameras have become very popular for tourists who like to travel light as well as for anybody who likes to take photos but feel inconvenienced by the bigger DSLRs although the latter can provide more accurate image and color reproductions. The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-T9 and T10 are attempts to bridge the gap between the ultrathin digicams and the DSLRs.
The T9 features a 6-megapixel image sensor, while the T10’s is increased to 7.2. Both have a 3x optical zoom lens from Carl Zeiss. This is the 35 mm format equivalent of a 38 to 114mm focal length. Also, both cameras have the same 2.5-inch color LCD display.
The capabilities of the T9 and T10 are greatly expanded with the Epoque EHS-ST9F by enabling them to shoot pictures up to a depth of 150 feet under the water or at least where there is a risk of their getting splashed or doused.
The EHS-ST9F is made of injection molded acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or ABS making it extremely light yet very rigid. It is also resistant to most acids and oil. Although it is only slightly thicker than the ultra thin cameras it protects, with measurements of 5.7″ W x 4.1″ H x 2.1 D”, it is deemed one of Epoque’s toughest housings.
A radial O-ring seal that is exclusive to Epoque effectively seals off water. The latching and closure design, also unique to Epoque, further helps in protecting your camera not only from water but also from dust. Thus, you can bring your camera not only to the oceans, lakes, and rivers, but to the deserts as well.
The EHS-ST9F provides access to all camera functions with easy-to-operate buttons and dials. The lens port is threaded to enable the mounting of conversion lenses such as a wide angle for a panoramic view of underwater seascape, or a macro for an up close and personal encounter with a showy lion fish or a menacing shark.
