A 5-megapixel CCD sensor combined with a 3x optical and 4x digital zoom in a 2.3″ H x 1.6″ D x 3.9″ W package makes the Olympus C-50 Zoom digital camera an excellent compact digital camera. It can provide you with high resolution images even when printed at 11″ X 14″. With its zoom lens, you can get your subjects closer without taking a step towards them. Its size allows you to slip it into your shirt pocket when not in use.
Although Olympus manufactures a line of waterproof Stylus models, it also produces waterproof housings for its cameras that were not born to swim on their own. For the C-50 Zoom, the company offers the Olympus PT-014.
The PT-014 is made of a clear polycarbonate shell that is durable enough to last for years. The shell is locked with buckle hooks secured by buckle levers that assure a tight closure. The main sealant is an O-ring in a groove that runs the length of the shell. The safety locks, control buttons and levers are either of stainless steel or brass that is nickel plated for corrosion-resistance. With this housing you can use your C-50 Zoom in the rain, snow, dust, and under the water up to 130 feet deep.
Slipping the camera into the housing is facilitated by loading guide rails keeping it properly aligned. This is important to keep the camera’s controls in contact with the housing’s own access buttons and levers. A clear fluorite or FL glass window in front of the lens guarantees the same picture quality as when the camera is out of the housing. A flash diffuser is installed allowing you to use the built-in flash. An LCD monitor hood can be attached to shield the displayed image from light to help in picture composition.
