 Sea & Sea RDX-500D Housing for Canon EOS 500D & 450D

Canon’s EOS series is a line of excellent entry-level DSLR cameras, the latest of which is the EOS 500D. This is an improvement over its predecessor, the 450D. Among the changes is the higher resolution sensor, from the 450D’s 12.2 to the 500D’s 15.1 megapixels. Both have a 3-inch LCD monitor, but the newer camera has a 920k pixel screen, up from 230k. Image processor for the 500D is DIGIC 4, while that of older camera is DIGIC III. Nonetheless, both cameras remain admirable equipment that can give you lots of fun taking clear and sharp photos.

It is for these two cameras that the Sea & Sea RDX-500D underwater housing was constructed. This is a compact yet strong and durable polycarbonate casing that let’s you use your Canon camera up to a depth of 60 meters.

As the 500D and 450D are entry-level DSLRs, Sea & Sea designed the underwater casing for beginners. The RDX-500D has a 0.5 pick-up viewfinder providing you with a full field of view. For macro work, you can purchase an optional 0.8 viewfinder.

The shutter release button on the housing is a versatile piece of control that can be activated in two ways. You can push it from the top or pull it from the front. With this feature you can quickly snap photos when a shark or stingray races right across you. All other camera controls are also accessible through buttons and levers strategically positioned on the housing.

With a camera quick shoe, mounting and removing your Canon into its diving gear is a quick and easy operation. Locking it in is also easy because of the large buckle structures.

An interchangeable lens port allows the mounting of macro, zoom, and wide-angle lenses, while two fiber-optic cable connectors enable the use of the built-in flash of the camera to trigger an external strobe.
